PROBLEM
SOLUTION

Extension Conflict.
SBMac hangs upon startup or shutdown.
4/11/02

A version 2.0 extension called USB Floppy Enabler needs to be removed. It may have been included with VST floppy drives.

Replace this extension with the latest version on the VST Technologies web site. The latest extension as of 4/11/02 is called USB Floppy Support and is version 2.1.6

Printing Problems
1/4/02

Symtom usually was that the first page would print OK and then the rest of the pages would be blank or would come to the screen instead of printing to the printer. Symptoms might change depending on the font and font size you used in Printer Setup. Sometimes problem would only show up in a long print job. Possible crash during printing also.

Upgrade to newer version:

MacWise 4.37
MacToPic 9.37
SBMac 4.37

Baud Rate Too High
11/27/01

This can happen when using the Serial Tool or Apple Modem Tool.
It can be caused by anything that prevents the tool from seeing a valid serial port. If you are using a USB to Serial Adaptor, make sure it is plugged in and working. Select New Connection from the CommToolBox Menu and verify that there is a port icon selected. If there is no port icon to select, you need to troubleshoot your Mac to find out why.

TELNET PROBLEM
10/25/99
with fast Mac and TGE Tool

When doing an open connection, you get a message immediately that says "Unable to complete connection".

The TGE telnet tool is not compatible with OS 9 or fast Macs.

Use VersaTerm Telnet Tool

Call Carnation Software at (512) 858-9234 to obtain the VersaTerm Telnet tool.

It is $30 per user and is much faster than the TGE tool.

Or send email to sales@carnation-software.com

Blue G3 Error
Baud Rate Too High Error
6/11/99

The Blue G3 and some other Macs can get this error message if MacToPic Plus tries to use the non-CommToolBox mode. Prior to June 16, 1999 that was the default mode the first time it was run. This also can occur with MacWise and SBMac.

The symptom is that when you run MacToPic Plus and try to enable the CommToolBox, you get an error that says the baud rate is too high. It will switch you back to the non-CommToolBox mode and you can never enable it. MacToPic Plus is now shipped with the CommToolBox enabled.

Use the new Defaults File

MacToPic Plus Defaults File

MacWise Defaults File

SBMac Defaults File

Copy this new defaults file into your MacToPic Plus Folder and let it replace the old Defaults file. Now it will come up with the CommToolBox enabled.
You may still get the high baud rate error but it will go away when you select New Connection from the CommToolBox Menu and change your settings to match your system (baud rate, handshake, port etc).

NOTE: You might also get this error if you tried to run the program without the Xmodem tool installed in the extension folder. Make sure the Xmodem tool is installed and then unstuff a fresh copy of MacToPic and run the program. Then select New Connection from the CommToolBox Menu to select the proper settings for your Mac.

Incorrect Telnet Terminal Type
causes emulation problems.

8/14/98

Terminal Type Entry in Telnet Tool

If you have the correct emulation selected under the Emulate Menu

but the emulation does not work...

Enter Correct Terminal Type in the Telnet Tool

When you do a New Connection from the CommToolBox Menu and select the telnet tool (TGE or Versaterm Tool), you will need to enter a terminal type. If you leave this field blank, your host will assume that you are using vt100 emulation when you log in.

Just setting the emulation type under the Emulation Menu is not enough to satisfy the host. You need to select the correct emulation and also enter the terminal type in the telnet tool.

The following are standard terminal types that you can enter:

wy50

wy60

vp

viewpoint

vt100

If none of these types work, consult your host computer documentation to see what your host supports.

This is a Telnet Packet timing problem. The Fkey escape sequence gets broken up

into separate packets and the host does not recognize it as a complete escape sequence.

Solution 1:

The following two lines should be added to the profile file

(or modified if this file is already present)

CONFLICT

ValueFax Background 2.0.8 thru 2.0.13

4/29/97

Extension will not release the modem port.

Communications programs that try to use the serial port run without complaining that the port is in use but it actually is being used by ValueFax. The symptom is extra garbage on your screen for direct serial connections. The symptom when dialing is that the connection is dropped as soon as carrier is detected.

Add the following program names to a file called "Names of Comm Applications"

(located in the ValueFax folder inside of the System Folder):

MacToPic

MacWise

SBMac

ValueFax Home Page

CONFLICT

SAM Intercept 4.5.0

4/29/97

Causes all Carnation Software Products to crash upon quitting the program.

Upgrade to Sam Intercept 4.5.1 or later
